Entertainment tech groups will merge

PERA to become council within ESTA

NEW YORK -- The Entertainment Services and Technology Assn. and the Production Equipment Rental Assn. have agreed to merge, subject to final ratification.

Under the agreement unveiled Monday, PERA will become the PERA Council within ESTA and focus on programs and services for film and video production rental businesses.

By adding a new sector to its organization, ESTA hopes to strengthen its voice on behalf of the entertainment technology industry. Its members supply products and services to the entertainment industry, in such areas as lighting, scenery, rigging, sound, special effects, costuming and makeup, among other things.

"In a time where uncertainty rules the day and even General Motors is a question mark, the merger of these two closely related industry organizations makes economic sense and, more importantly, business sense for the companies that make up the membership of both organizations," ESTA president Bill Groener said.

PERA president Pat Patin added: "This will provide greater membership value and expand opportunities for companies serving the entire entertainment technology industry."
