eOne Buys 65 Percent Stake in 'Naked and Afraid,' 'Blind Date' Producer Renegade 83
“Renegade is truly best-in-class with a winning formula and a strong track record of success in unscripted television," says eOne Television CEO John Morayniss.
Entertainment One said Thursday that it has acquired a 65 percent stake in David Garfinkle and Jay Renfroe’s California-based reality TV production firm Renegade 83, which is behind such shows as Discovery's Naked and Afraid and dating game show Blind Date.
Financial details weren't disclosed. The deal was announced by John Morayniss, eOne Television’s CEO.
Garfinkle and Renfroe will continue to lead Renegade 83, which was founded in 1994. Renegade's other shows include Naked and Afraid: XL, Fit to Fat to Fit, 4400 and The Kennedy Detail.
"The transaction brings together two companies that share a commitment to producing and distributing bold high-quality world-class programming," eOne said in a statement.
“Renegade is truly best-in-class with a winning formula and a strong track record of success in unscripted television. We are looking forward to collaborating as they continue to do what they do best now powered by eOne,” said Morayniss. “Renegade complements our expansive reality slate and augments our ever-growing creative pipeline with authentic stories for audiences both at home and around the world.”
Said Garfinkle and Renfroe: "As an indie studio, eOne's vast distribution network and deep international relationships will support us in our growth and open the door to exciting new partnerships that will enable us to make standout programming with greater reach."
Renegade 83 builds on eOne’s unscripted production activities in North America, where the company expects to deliver more than 400 hours of unscripted content this year. Its U.S. lineup includes David Spade’s comedy prank show Fameless (truTV) and Mary Mary (WE tv).
