Epix books Lewis Black comedy event

"Stark Raving Black" is part of event programming

NEW YORK - Epix, the premium TV joint venture of Viacom, Lionsgate and MGM, on Wednesday unveiled an hour-long Lewis Black comedy special as one of its first major programming events that will also hit movie theaters in select markets.

The network has said it plans to offer comedy, concert and other event-type programming in addition to movies and original TV shows.

The Black event, "Stark Raving Black," filmed recently at the Fillmore Theater in Detroit, will be released in movie theaters in 20 U.S. markets, such as New York, LA, Chicago and Detroit, in the fall and include an introduction to Epix. It will also be released in 25 international markets.

The event will be available on Epix's TV and broadband platforms in December.
Following its Epix premiere, Black will interact with fans in the online Epix Event Theater on the network's Website.

Epix said the comedy event will feature "cathartic rants on everything from the iPhone and growing older to lamenting his experience being forced to follow Country and Christian music's golden couple, Vince Gill and Amy Grant, at a benefit."

"Lewis Black defines the kind of original, smart content Epix is going to deliver," said Epix president Mark Greenberg.
