The former Syfy exec will serve as vp comedy development and international scripted development.

ABC is expanding its comedy department.

Former Syfy exec Erika Kennair has been tapped vp comedy development and international scripted development at ABC Entertainment Group. She will report to Samie Kim Falvey, exec vp comedy development and international scripted development.

In her new role, Kennair will be charged with identifying international formats as well as writers/directors for drama and comedy in addition with forming partnerships with global content producers. She'll also work on developing new comedies.

"Erika brings with her a wealth of new ideas, a strong background in development and an invaluable knack for finding the most talented and diverse writers and directors, which will help strengthen the network,” Falvey said. “She is a welcome addition to ABC and our development team."

Before joining ABC, Kennair served as vp original programming and development at Syfy. Since joining the NBCUniversal-owned cable network in July 2010, Kennair developed The Magicians, Hunters, 12 Monkeys, Killjoys and Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's first scripted cable drama pilot Incorporated.

Before that, Kennair was a manger of entertainment diversity programs at NBC, a role she held since 2006.
