Esperanza AFM slate verges on the surreal

Bill Pullman, John Leguizamo and Bobby Cannavale are among the actors attached to topline Esperanza Prods. features being unveiled at the AFM.

Pullman and Leguizamo are attached to star in "Celestina," the surreal tale of a pregnant woman's search for the father of her child. Walter Salles is executive producing the project, set to be directed by his Oscar-winning "Motorcycle Diaries" scribe Jose Rivera.

Rivera also will exec produce writer Edwin Sanchez's "Unmerciful Good Fortune," the story of a young woman arrested as a serial killer whose clairvoyant gifts disrupt the life of an assistant DA assigned to her case.

Both projects are set to be completed by 2010.

Other projects on Esperanza's slate include the drama "Apples," with Cannavale attached, and an adaptation of Donald Harington's 2004 novel "With."
