ESPN Star Sports India Launches Hi-Definition Channels

ESPN HD and Star Cricket HD channels add to ESPN Star Sports' five channel bouquet.

MUMBAI -- ESPN Star Sports announced the launch of ESPN HD and Star Cricket HD, India’s first high-definition sports channels, which expand ESS' broadcast bouquet to five. The network already runs ESPN, STAR Cricket and STAR Sports here.

The first major sporting event to be telecast in high-definition on Star Cricket HD will be the the upcoming cricket series featuring the Indian team's tour of England, which begins 21 July.

ESPN HD will showcase Formula One racing action with the Hungarian Grand Prix and events such as the US Senior Open Golf.

“Fans want to be up close to the action and there’s no better way to experience the splendour than High Definition given the broader aspect ratio, higher resolution and enhanced audio that allows sport events to be broadcast in their full glory," said ESS MD Manu Sawhney.

The new channels will be available on direct to home services such as Tata Sky which will offer Star Cricket HD with immediate effect.
