Euro Film awards introduces new categories

European production designer, European editor added

COLOGNE, Germany -- The European Film Academy has introduced two new categories for its annual European Film Awards: for European production designer and European editor.

The two new awards will replace the catch-all category, the Prix d'Excellence, which was given to excellence in the film crafts -- sometimes to a editor, sometimes a costume or set designer -- depending on the year.

Nominees will be selected in the same three-part process used for picking other EFA winners. The 20 European countries will the largest number of EFA members each select one film for consideration in the European Film Awards. A further 20 are picked by a committee made up for EFA board members and independent experts. The 2,000-odd members of the academy then vote to select three nominees in each category and vote again to pick the winners.

The 2010 European Film Awards will be held in Tallinn, Estonia on Dec. 4.
