Ex-Ramones drummer slams 'Jersey Shore'

Tells Paper the MTV show 'makes Italians look really bad'

The Ramones' former drummer Marky Ramone admits to being a fan of Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi but denounces the exploits of the "Jersey Shore" crew in an interview with Paper magazine.

"I personally think 'Jersey Shore' makes Italians look really bad," says Ramone, who replaced original Ramones drummer Tommy Ramone in 1978. "Coming off 'The Sopranos,' 'The Godfather' movies, 'Goodfellas' ... a lot of people are very hypnotized and influenced by television. It just shows a very condescending way about Italian people and what they perceive. I go to Italy every year, and there's that other side, the painters, the great actors ... and then there are people who glorify them as gangsters."

Ramone, who currently balances his time between gigs with his latest band, Blitzkrieg, and hosting "Marky Ramone's Punk Rock Blitzkrieg" on Sirius XM radio, says he is not an avid watcher of MTV's "Jersey Shore," preferring instead "Hung" and "True Blood."

"A lot of good stuff on HBO," he says.
