Fabolous seeks top album debut

'Loso's Way' expected to sell more than 90,000 units

Rapper Fabolous is aiming for his first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart next week. Industry prognosticators project that his "Loso's Way" set could move between 90,000 to 100,000 copies in its first week.

But ... "Loso's Way" probably won't end up as the week's top selling album. You guessed it: Michael Jackson's "Number Ones" could prevail as the overall top seller and reign at No. 1 on the Top Comprehensive Albums chart over Fabolous.

The Billboard 200 chart houses current and new albums -- generally those 18 months old or less. Over on the Top Comprehensive Albums chart, both old and new albums mingle together, hence why Michael Jackson's 2003 set "Number Ones" continues to loom large there. The Epic release spent its fourth non-consecutive week atop the Comprehensive Albums chart this week.

As for Fabolous', his Def Jam effort also doubles as a soundtrack to a half-hour movie of the same name. It's available on a DVD in a deluxe CD/DVD package or as a video download with the digital album.

He has notched four previous top 10 sets on the Billboard 200, charting as high as No. 2 with his last release, 2007's "From Nothin' to Somethin'." The album started with 159,000.

The week's other big new release, singer/actress Ashley Tisdale's "Guilty Pleasure," may arrive at the outer edge of the top 10 on the Billboard 200. Sources suggest the Warner Bros. set could sell about 30,000 by week's end. Her first album, 2007's "Headstrong," debuted and peaked at No. 4 with 64,000 sold in its first week.

Nielsen SoundScan's sales tracking week, as reflected in Billboard's album charts, runs from Monday through Sunday of each week. Next week's album charts will be revealed on the morning of Wednesday, August 5 and will reflect data through the week ending Sunday, August 2.
