Facebook, ABC News strike election deal

NEW YORK -- Facebook has forged a partnership with ABC News centered around the 2008 Presidential election, which includes the launch of a new tool designed to facilitate political debate on the popular social networking platform.

Via the new "U.S. Politics" application, Facebook's user base can form debate groups to express their views on the ongoing Presidential race. To supplement these discussion, ABC News political content will be available on the site for the duration of the campaign, including video footage as well as dispatches from the network's top political correspondents. Officials said that the ABC News content will be tailored to match the look and feel of other information found throughout Facebook.

In addition to the debate groups and news coverage, the two partners will conduct a series of politically themed polls on the site, the results of which will be published during the campaign.
