Faithfull makes full recovery from cancer

LONDON - British singer and actress Marianne Faithfull has recovered from breast cancer and plans to open her postponed world tour in Budapest in March, a spokesman said on Monday.

The 59-year-old 1960s icon was diagnosed with cancer in September and underwent surgery in France the following month, forcing her to postpone her world tour that was to have run from October to a final gig in London in December.

"Because the disease was caught at its very earliest stages, no further treatment has been necessary and she is making a rapid return to full health," said spokesman Rob Partridge.

Faithfull, a former girlfriend of the Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger, spoke of her illness in a statement.

"It has been an extraordinary experience and, in many ways, extremely positive," she said in a statement. "I didn't realize how many true friends I had. I feel so lucky and loved and thank everybody for all their good thoughts."

Her comeback concert is scheduled for March 12, 2007, in Budapest. Further dates have yet to be confirmed, but the tour will last three months.
