'Family' writers back in action

After a two-month delay, production on Season 6 of Fox's hit animated comedy "Family Guy" got under way this week.

The writers for the 20th Century Fox TV series were supposed to begin work on the sixth season Oct. 23, but the studio asked them to stay home while it was negotiating a new deal with series creator/executive producer Seth MacFarlane.

On Tuesday, the "Family Guy" writers were asked to report to work Wednesday and are now breaking stories.

20th TV's decision to proceed with production on the series' sixth season comes as MacFarlane's deal, in the works for about a year, is said to be finally reaching the finish line, with both sides close to an agreement.

In addition to "Family Guy," MacFarlane executive produces Fox's animated series "American Dad" and the network's upcoming live-action comedy "The Winner."

20th TV declined comment Thursday.
