The man behind Farrah Fawcett's iconic '70s 'do and Karlie Kloss' freshly chopped lob reveals the secrets to an easy, summery look.

When it comes to Hollywood hair, there’s no bigger name than Garren. The stylist has created some of the most iconic hairdos in recent history, including Farrah Fawcett's during the late '70s, Madonna’s on a 1991 Vanity Fair cover as the ultimate blond bombshell and, most recently, Karlie Kloss blunt and shaggy bob (which, coincidentally, bestie Taylor Swift has a sideswept version of now).

The hair legend and co-founder of the R+Co product line also is responsible for rising star Cara Delevingne’s July Vogue cover, giving the supermodel and Paper Town actress natural sideswept hair that’s perfect for summer. The hairstylist employed an array of products from his line on Delevingne’s mane, including Chiffon Styling Mousse ($27) and Dallas Thickening Spray ($25), flipping the model’s tresses upside down then drying it with cool air to loosen the hair.

Given Garren’s robust client roster and impressive résumé, he still remains starstruck by a few celebs’ hair for their natural and effortless look (think Julianne Moore’s wavy red hair).

Here, the beauty expert talks about the inspiration behind his most recent Vogue cover as well as the celebs whose hairstyles he finds most covetable for summer.

Pret-a-Reporter: What was the inspiration for Cara's hair on the Vogue cover?

Garren: I was thinking of using her natural texture and getting her hair to have its own natural wave. Fashion dictates at this moment, and we were trying to keep it contemporary so we decided to go with a low side part with the hair over one eye for a natural, wavy, soft look.

What are the takeaways from the style that can work for women this summer?

It’s a more glamorized version of beach hair and, in that, I mean that the wave is softer and separated, but it’s not crunchy. It’s an easy style that you can run your hands through.

What other summer-appropriate styles are you loving at the moment?

I think anything easy with a natural texture that is also well groomed with the proper products. For example, using a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner like R+Co Atlantis Moisturizing Shampoo ($28) and Conditioner ($28) if you need more moisture, or if you have naturally frizzy hair, using Bel Air Smoothing Shampoo ($24) and Conditioner ($25) to smooth it out, and always using a setting lotion like One Prep Spray ($20).

You can part the hair to the side or center, tucking the front pieces behind the ears — that’s how you get the low deep wave — and then let the rest of the hair dry naturally.

Who are the other celebs that are sporting these styles and doing it well?

Julianne Moore, Taraji P. HensonAmanda Seyfried. It’s all about the easy hair, like the waves or an easy messy bun. It’s not a hairdo; it’s a natural, glamorous look.

What five key hair products and tools should someone be taking for summer travel?

Always take a shampoo and conditioner that’s right for your hair — Gemstone ($25) for color-treated hair, Atlantis for hair that needs moisture and Bel Air for frizzy hair. One Prep Spray to even out texture of the hair, and so that the wave pattern is good. I would also bring Tinsel Smoothing Oil ($24) and a Death Valley Travel Size ($29) in case your hair gets oily or you want to add volume. Bring Outer Space Flexible Hairspray ($29) to finish the look.
