Fox Searchlight Cancels 'The Favourite' Red Carpet Amid Wildfires
The screening and afterparty will continue as planned.
The Favourite red carpet was canceled amid the Woolsey Fire, a Fox Searchlight rep confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter on Friday night.
According to the rep, Fox Searchlight is standing in solidarity with AFI and canceling the red carpet to pay respects to those affected by the tragic blaze that erupted last Thursday.
This marks the most recent cancellation as Fox Searchlight has followed suit with others such as Netflix scrapping the Narcos: Mexico carpet, and the AFI fest carpets for the Coen brothers’ The Ballad of Buster Scruggs and Susanne Bier’s Bird Box.
Paramount canceled the Nov. 11 red carpet and afterparty for the comedy Instant Family, starring Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne. Annapurna, Fox and Focus Features have canceled the AFI fest red carpets for their upcoming films, as well, including those planned for Nicole Kidman's Destroyer, Viola Davis' Widows and the fest's closing-night screening of Mary Queen of Scots.
The Woolsey Fire, which sparked Thursday afternoon, has burned over 98,362 acres and destroyed more than 713 structures. Over 250,000 residents have been evacuated and three deaths have been linked to the conflagration. Numerous people have also been hurt, including three firefighters. The blaze is now said to be nearly 78 percent contained. Crews hope for full containment by Monday.
