Feeding time for Armstrong at MGM
EmptyScot Armstrong has been hired to do additional script work on the MGM comedy "The Zookeeper." Walt Becker is attached to direct and produce the film along with Jennifer Eatz and Broken Road's Todd Garner, who came up with the idea.
Original writers Jay Scherick and David Ronn sold their spec — about a lonely, misguided zookeeper who gets unexpected romantic help from the animals in his care — to the Lion in April for $2 million against $3 million.
The studio sees the project as a potentially wide-appealing comedy and has met with "I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry" star Kevin James about the lead role. No one has been cast, however.
Armstrong, who has frequently collaborated with writer-director Todd Phillips on movies like "Old School," most recently wrote the screenplay for "Semi-Pro." He has several projects in development, including "Multiple Mary," which he co-wrote and will direct and produce for New Line.
Armstrong, Becker and Eatz are repped by CAA; Garner is repped by WMA. (partialdiff)
