Female Star of the Year: Anne Hathaway

Breaking out of youth-oriented roles in favor of more adult parts is a tough transition for any emerging actress hoping to build a sustainable career.

But for Anne Hathaway, ShoWest's Female Star of the Year, the evolution has seemed almost effortless.

After starring in 2001's teen romance "The Princess Diaries" and its 2004 sequel, she charmed adult audiences as a beleaguered assistant in the 2006 boxoffice hit "The Devil Wears Prada," playing opposite Meryl Streep.

This summer finds her starring alongside Steve Carell in the Warner Bros. remake "Get Smart"; she'll take a darker turn in the fall in Sony's thriller "Passengers"; and in late 2008 she'll star as an ex-model in Sony's comedy "Dancing With Shiva."
