Hot Docs Festival Taking Recommendations for Sidebar

Hot Docs wants festival curators to recommend films they didn't program, but wish they had.

TORONTO – Film festival programmers that didn't program a documentary, but wished they had – you have a second chance.

The Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival wants your recommendations for its "Ripping Reality – The B-Sides" sidebar at its upcoming 2011 edition.

"In many cases we expect that these films will have been the most quietly influential and revered works of the documentary new wave," Hot Docs director of programming Sean Farnel explained.

The Canadian doc festival has also scheduled a spotlight on Italian documentaries as part of its Made In program.

And Hot Docs is to pay tribute to Canadian filmmaker Terence Macartney-Filgate with an outstanding achievement award, and will give another Toronto filmmaker, Alan Zweig, a retrospective as part of its Focus On series.

The 2011 Hot Docs festival is set to run from April 28 to May 8 in Toronto.
