The burgeoning rivalry between the Venice Film Festival and RomaCinemaFest may no longer be an issue. Mayor-elect Gianni Alemanno said Tuesday that he plans to replace festival chief Goffredo Bettini and make the Rome festival more about Italian productions than Hollywood
A-listers. Responded Venice mayor Massimo Cacciari on state broadcaster RAI: "Alemanno is an intelligent man. … Perhaps he will simply close the RomaCinemaFest."
Not the real deal
A Nevada man who posed as a "public relations coordinator" for Paramount has pleaded guilty to federal wire fraud. Andy James posed as fake exec Carson Rogan to convince hardware suppliers to send him materials that he claimed would be placed in feature films.
IFC Entertainment acquired North American rights to Luis Piedrahita and Rodrigo Sopena's Spanish thriller "Fermat's Room." The story of four haunted mathematicians, which had its North American premiere Friday at Tribeca, will debut on IFC's Festival Direct VOD platform in the summer.

Jonathan Fischer, formerly of Intrepid Pictures, has been named CEO of Groundswell Prods. He will take over for departing CFO Peter Herzig.
