Cecchi Gori arrested

Vittorio Cecchi Gori's financial woes took a turn for the worse Tuesday when he was arrested on charges of insolvency. Cecchi Gori had been in the process of trying to resurrect his career, but he repeatedly ran into financial troubles. In March, a Rome tribunal seized an estimated €100 million ($158 million) in Cecchi Gori property, including the prized Cinema Adriano, Italy's most lucrative multiplex in terms of per-screen revenue.

FearNet picks up 'Dust'

Multiplatform network FearNet has greenlighted a sequel to the shortform series "30 Days of Night: Blood Trails," which is produced by Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures and Mandate Pictures. Based on the graphic novels, the new installment "30 Days of Night: Dust to Dust" will star Shawnee Smith ("Saw") and premiere July 17.

Student presentations

Jason Reitman, Caleb Deschanel and Todd Holland will present at the 35th annual Student Academy Awards, taking place Saturday at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Beverly Hills. Academy president Sid Ganis will emcee the ceremony, which will honor 11 filmmakers from across the U.S. and one from Germany.

Best of the brits

Nigel Lythgoe will host the Breakthrough Brits awards celebrating emerging U.K. filmmakers. The U.K. Film Council and the U.K. Film Council U.S. event honors British actors, writers and producers, including Kwame Kwei-Armah, Karlene Page and Florence Ayisi. The reception will be Thursday in Los Angeles.
