Empty'Party' time at Roadside
Roadside Attractions has acquired all U.S. rights to Jason Freeland's feature "Garden Party." Vinessa Shaw, Willa Holland and Erik Scott Smith star in the tale of young people trying to succeed in the Los Angeles entertainment business. Freeland, who wrote the screenplay, teamed with Lookout Films producer Tim Youd for the James Ellroy adaptation "Brown's Requiem." Roadside's Howard Cohen and Eric d'Arbeloff negotiated the deal with Youd.
Mark Waters will receive the 2008 Franklin J. Schaffner Alumni Medal as part of the AFI Life Achievement Award honoring Warren Beatty. The event will be held Thursday at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland. Waters' credits include "Mean Girls" and "Just Like Heaven."
Bollywood in Bangkok
The ninth annual International Indian Film Academy awards kicked off a weekend of events Friday in Bangkok with the world premiere of "Sarkar Raj," directed by Ram Gopal Varma. "Sarkar Raj" stars three members of the "first family of Indian cinema" — Amitabh Bachchan, his son Abhishek Bachchan and the younger Bachchan's wife, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
Sophie Monk and Tad Hilgenbrinck are starring with William Sadler in Dave Parker's "The Hills Run Red," a horror film from Dark Castle Home Entertainment and Warner Premiere. The story centers on a film fanatic obsessed with a slasher movie. Shooting is under way in Bulgaria.
