British Sky Broadcasting has mothballed plans to launch a combined digital terrestrial pay TV and broadband service after waiting almost two years for regulatory clearance "with no end in sight." Sky announced plans to launch the so-called Picnic service in 2007 but has been awaiting the green light from media regulator Ofcom, which launched an inquiry into the service after antitrust appeals from Virgin Media and other operators.


The Indian Information and Broadcasting Ministry has issued an advisory to two New Delhi-based Hindi-language news channels, Aaj Tak and India TV, for "showing content that appears to be spreading panic and fear." News reports said that a 16-year-old girl in central India overdosed on pills after she saw "end of the world" predictions during coverage of the launch in Switzerland of the Large Hadron Collider experiment, a $7.7 billion attempt to smash atomic particles and re-create the origins of the universe.

'Indian Idol' on FOR FOUR

Sony Entertainment Television will bow "Indian Idol 4," the local adaptation of "American Idol," on Friday, Miditech Private said. Produced by Miditech with "Idol" global format owner Fremantle Media, Season 4's jury includes Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre, singer Kailash Kher, composer Annu Malik and lyricist-poet Javed Akhtar.
