New York Women in Film & Television will honor Laura Linney, Kyra Sedgwick, Nickelodeon/MTVN Kids/Family Group president Cyma Zarghami and advertising exec Linda Kaplan Thaler at its 28th annual Muse Awards, to be held Dec. 9 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York. It also will present its Loreen Arbus Award to Eastman Kodak for its support of women in the industry.
"Numbered," a thriller by first-time screenwriter Neil McGowan, has earned first place, worth $7,000, in the 13th annual Slamdance Screenplay Competition. The winners were announced Friday at a reception at WGA West.
Makeup artist Rick Baker will be honored with the International Press Academy's Nikola Tesla Award recognizing visionary achievements in filmmaking technology. The award will be presented at the group's 12th annual Satellite Awards on Dec. 14 at the InterContinental Hotel in Century City.
AFI SILENCES 'SOLOIST'
In the wake of Paramount's decision to postpone the theatrical release of "The Soloist" from Dec. 12 to March 31, the movie has been pulled as the opening-night film at AFI Fest. The fest, which runs Oct. 30-Nov. 9, is set to announce a new opening-night selection today.
