Film Industry Training Board taps Smith

LONDON -- Veteran U.K. producer Iain Smith has been appointed chair of the Film Industry Training Board, the organization said Thursday.

Smith, whose credits include "Cold Mountain" and "Children of Men," will sit on the board of the organization, whose aim is to ensure training offered is adequate to meet the needs of the industry.

The FITB will oversee the delivery and operation of the Skills Investment Fund, a training levy for the film production industry, which will now move from voluntary to mandatory toward the end of 2008.

Smith's appointment was made by the Government Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills.
