Film Movement Inks Distribution Deal With Canada's VSC

The New York-based indie distributor has a Canadian partner whose first release is Anthony Chen's Cannes-winner "Ilo Ilo."

TORONTO – New York-based indie film distributor Film Movement has inked an output agreement with Canada's Video Services Corp. (VSC).

The two-year agreement covers 15 to 20 titles a year, and will see VSC exclusively handle Film Movement releases north of the border theatrically, and on DVD and VOD.

Besides mining Film Movement’s catalog for product, the deal starts with the August DVD release of Anthony Chen's Singaporean drama Ilo Ilo, a Camera D’Or winner in Cannes.

Other upcoming releases include Manuel Martin Cuenca's Cannibal, Diane Kurys' For a Woman and the action thriller APP.

"The coordinated release of our new films and the improved distribution of our sizeable back-catalog in Canada will be a boon to Canada's many art house film fans," said Michael E. Rosenberg, co-president of Film Movement.

Recent theatrical releases from VSC in Canada include Union Square, starring Mira Sorvino, A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III, from writer/director Roman Coppola, and the Israeli horror film Big Bad Wolves.
