U.S. filmmakers join Cinefondation program

Hartsfield and Mahaffy among 15 selected for Atelier

PARIS -- Two U.S. directors are among the 15 filmmakers from across the globe tapped for the Cinefondation's Atelier program at this year's Festival de Cannes.

Freshman director Caran Hartsfield will be looking to complete and finance "Bury Me Standing" while third-time filmmaker Jake Mahaffy will bring his "Free In Deed" to the Riviera.

The Atelier was launched in 2005 to help both fresh faces and more experienced directors finish and find funding for their upcoming projects.

This year's 15 entrants, who hail from 14 different countries, will join their respective producers for eight days of networking at the world's biggest international film event of the year beginning May 15.
