FilmNation buy puts int'l sales on GreeneStreet

FilmNation, the international sales and distribution company launched last year by former Weinstein Co. exec Glen Basner, has acquired GreeneStreet Films' international sales arm.

Under the agreement, announced Monday by Basner and GreeneStreet co-heads John Penotti and Tim Williams, FilmNation will serve as GreeneStreet's exclusive international sales agent. Amy Beecroft, who headed GreeneStreet Films International, will join FilmNation as senior vp international sales.

FilmNation also will sell films financed and produced by A Bigger Boat, the new television and film outfit Peter Block runs in partnership with GreeneStreet.

The first projects to be sold by FilmNation include Boat's "Frozen," a thriller written and directed by Adam Green, and two films from GreeneStreet/Boat: an untitled Peter Farrelly-Charlie Wessler comedy (which Overture will release in North America) and Matt Reeve's "The Invisible Women."

"Since the production capabilities of our company are growing through A Bigger Boat's upcoming films, this is a perfect opportunity to segue our long-standing international sales business into the very capable hands of FilmNation," Penotti and Williams said. (partialdiff)
