Finales drive eyes to ABC; demo to Fox

NEW YORK -- Fox took another week in the adults 18-49 demographic, while the finales of "Grey's Anatomy" and "Desperate Housewives" carried ABC to viewership victory.

"American Idol" once again gave Fox the juice in adults 18-49, with Tuesday's one-hour edition (24.2 million, 9.4 rating/26 share in adults 18-49) and Wednesday's edition (28 million, 10.8/27) giving the network commanding leads on those nights. And "House" (21.2 million, 9.2/23) nearly equaled "Idol" in the demo on Tuesday night.

The week started off with a win for ABC on Monday as "Dancing With the Stars" (19.6 million, 5.3/15) beat the series finale of "The King of Queens" (13.6 million, 5.2/13) and tied the season's penultimate episode of "Heroes" (11.5 million, 5.3/13) on NBC and CBS' "CSI: Miami" (16.6 million, 5.3/14) in the demo.

Beyond "Idol," Tuesday's highlight was the results show of "Dancing" (18.4 million, 4.8/12). NBC won 10 p.m. with "Law & Order: SVU" (12.7 million, 4.3/12), beating out ABC's "Boston Legal" (10.3 million, 2.7/7) and CBS' "Academy of Country Music Awards" (9.3 million, 2.7/7). The 10 p.m. Wednesday time period was won in the demo by "Lost" (12.3 million, 5.2/14) and in viewership by "CSI: NY" (13.1 million, 4.0/10).

Thursday remained the competitive dogfight that it has been all season, with ABC winning the demo battle on the back of "Grey's Anatomy" (22.6 million, 9.1/23) while CBS won the night in viewers, led by the season finale of "CSI" (20.4 million, 6.2/16). The retiring Bob Barker became a primetime star Thursday for the second night in a row. Wednesday's "The Price Is Right" special (14 million, 3.5/1) won in viewership and tied for first in adults 18-49. Thursday's "Bob Barker: 50 Years" (14.3 million, 3.2/10) won in viewership against "Ugly Betty" (10.5 million, 3.6/11) and the hourlong season finale of "The Office" (7.9 million, 3.9/12). The 10 p.m. hour went to a repeat "CSI" (13.3 million, 3.9/11), which beat "ER" (9.5 million, 3.6/10) and "Lost: The Answers" (9.1 million, 3.7/10).

There was an inauspicious start Friday night to ABC's "National Bingo Night" (6.2 million, 1.8/6), which was beaten by a Dr. Phil special on CBS (7.8 million, 2.1/7).

ABC capped off its week with the season finale of "Desperate Housewives" (18.8 million, 7.2/17) plus "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" (12.6 million, 4.5/13) and "Brothers & Sisters" (12.3 million, 4.5/12). Also notable were Fox's "Family Guy" (9.1 million, 4.5/11) and "The Simpsons" (9.9 million, 4.5/13).

MyNetworkTV had its best week since its Sept. 5 launch, averaging 1.2 million total viewers and 576,000 adults 25-54. The network got a boost from the specials "Anna Nicole: Centerfold Revisited" and "Britney Spears: A Pop Idol Exposed" on Wednesday and unscripted series "IFL Battleground" along with three theatrical movies, including "Chain Reaction."

ABC (10.8 million, 3.6/10) and Fox (10 million, 3.9/12) led the way for the week, followed by CBS (10.4 million, 2.8/8), NBC (7 million, 2.4/7), The CW (3.1 million, 1.3/4) and My Network TV (1.2 million, 0.4/1).
