'Finian's Rainbow' to shutter Jan. 17

Closing after nearly more than 90 performances

NEW YORK -- The Broadway revival of "Finian's Rainbow" will close Jan. 17 after nearly two dozen previews and more than 90 performances.

The revival of the classic 1947 musical opened Oct. 29 and is directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle. It features a leprechaun, a stolen pot of gold and a feisty Irish heroine.

Producers say in an e-mail Thursday that "the economic realities of Broadway today" do not allow the show to play at the St. James Theatre as long as they had hoped.

"Finian's Rainbow" stars Jim Norton, Kate Baldwin, Cheyenne Jackson, Christopher Fitzgerald and Chuck Cooper.
