FIP has 'Gigantic' in its grasp

First Independent Pictures has acquired domestic rights to Matt Aselton's comedy "Gigantic," starring Paul Dano, Zooey Deschanel, John Goodman, Ed Asner and Jane Alexander.

Dano, also an executive producer on the project, plays a mattress salesman who wants to adopt a Chinese baby; an off-kilter woman (Deschanel) distracts him during his quest.

The film premiered in September at the Toronto International Film Festival and screened this weekend at AFM, where the deal was closed. Epoch Films' Mindy Goldberg and Killer Films' Christine Vachon produced the project for their shingles. Scott Ferguson, Jeff Preiss, Jerry Soloman and John Wells executive produced with Dano.

FIP, which recently released Working Title's British bar mitzvah comedy "Sixty Six" and "New York Doll," plans a spring theatrical bow for "Gigantic."

Cinetic Media and Jerry Dasti negotiated the deal on behalf of the filmmakers with FIP head Gary Rubin and Shelley Surpin. Fortissimo Films is handling AFM foreign territory sales. (partialdiff)
