Fire damages Downey Studios

Heat ignited propane tanks outside

A fire fed by small propane tanks has damaged a building at Downey Studios.

Downey Fire Department Battalion Chief Bruce English says the fire burned for about 35 minutes Friday.

One person was taken to a hospital, but English did not know the nature of the injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. English says some type of heat source ignited more than ten, 10-gallon propane tanks stored outside. The interior of the building sustained smoke damage, but English says inspectors are still determining the full extent of damage.

English does not believe any productions were in progress at the time.

The studio is located in a former aerospace facility used in the Apollo and space shuttle programs.
