Fire destroys Cinerent storage

HONG KONG -- A storeroom full of film equipment at local equipment rental company Cinerent was destroyed in a fire that broke out sometime after midnight Saturday. No one was injured.

A security guard alerted the fire department at 12:30 a.m. after noticing thick smoke coming out of the storeroom at Cinerent’s facility in Kowloon Tong. The fire lasted three hours, destroying the room’s entire contents. Proprietor Jeffrey Ha said the company is determining the value of the damage.

With more than 10 branches in China and Asia, Cinerent has supplied filming equipment and technical support to regional and Hollywood productions including "Casino Royale," "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor” and "Lust, Caution.”

“We are trying to minimize the interruption of regular operation by getting equipment from other branches,” Ha said. The closest branch was in Shenzhen, where Ha left to gather equipment after assessing the damage.
