First Look: Glenn Close, Jonathan Pryce in 'The Wife'
Elizabeth McGovern, Harry Lloyd and Annie Starke also star in the adaptation of Meg Wolitzer's novel.
Glenn Close and Jonathan Pryce play a married couple at a breaking point in The Wife, the first image from which was released Monday.
Based on Meg Wolitzer's novel and directed by Berlin Silver Bear winner Bjorn Runge (Daybreak, Mouth to Mouth), the film sees six-time Academy Award nominee Close as Joan Castleman, wife of one of America's preeminent novelists (played by Pryce) who is about to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature. But after decades spent ignoring her own literary talents to focus on his, she finally decides that enough is enough.
Production on the project, which also stars Elizabeth McGovern (Downton Abbey), Harry Lloyd (The Theory of Everything) and Annie Starke (Bastards, Albert Nobbs), wrapped in mid-December. It was adapted by Jane Anderson.
Brokered by Embankment Films — Silver Reel, Creative Scotland, Film Vast, Chimney, the Swedish Film Institute and SF Studios financed the production.
Producers are Rosalie Swedlin for Anonymous Content, Meta Louise Foldager Sorensen for Meta Film, Piers Tempest and Jo Bamford for Tempo Productions, Piodor Gustafsson for Spark Film and Television and Claudia Bluemhuber for Silver Reel.
