First Trailer for Steven Spielberg's 'The BFG' Debuts

Disney teases its take on the popular Roald Dahl novel.

Sophie makes a startling discovery in the teaser trailer for Steven Spielberg's fantasy-adventure The BFG, which debuted on Wednesday.

In the trailer, young Sophie has been told never to get out of bed and to go to the window curtain at night. But as broken glass signals the witching hour striking at 3 a.m., she breaks the rules and spots a mysterious giant in the street below.

Darting back to her bed and hiding under the cover, a giant hand reaches through the window to apparently seize Sophie for her great adventure in Giant Country. "And that is where our story begins," a voiceover says.

The BFG is based on the popular novel by Roald Dahl, which centers on a young London girl named Sophie and the mysterious giant who introduces her to the wonders and perils of Giant Country.

Mark Rylance will play the titular "Big Friendly Giant" and newcomer Ruby Barnhill is starring as Sophie. Bill Hader, Jemaine Clement, Michael David Adamthwaite, Daniel Bacon, Chris Gibbs, Adam Godley, Jonathan Holmes, Paul Moniz de Sa and Olafur Olaffson also star.

Penelope Wilton will play the Queen of England and Rebecca Hall will star as Mary, the Queen’s maid. The Disney/Amblin/Reliance production in association with Walden Media will open in U.S. theaters in July 1, 2016.
