FitzPatrick takes comedy post at Fremantle

Executive will develop projects as senior vp

FremantleMedia North America is getting serious about scripted comedy.

The company has tapped Maureen FitzPatrick in the newly created position of senior vp comedy development. In addition to comedy development, she'll oversee the sale and adaptation of existing British comedy projects, reporting to chief creative officer Eugene Young.

FitzPatrick most recently was senior vp digital content and development for FremantleMedia Enterprises, the licensing arm of FMNA, where she created the Atomic Wedgie online comedy channel. She will continue to shepherd creation of comedy formats via Atomic Wedgie, which launched "Secret Girlfriend" as a Web series before it landed a six-episode order from Comedy Central.
