'Flame' to open Montreal sidebar

Documentary showcase central to World Film Festival

TORONTO -- Chinese director Gu Jun’s “The Everlasting Flame – Beijing 2008” will kick off the documentary sidebar at the Montreal World Film Festival.

The official documentary of the Beijing Olympics will receive a world premiere in Montreal on September 5, with Gu attending.
Also unspooling as part of the Documentaries of the World section is Cambodian director Roshane Saidnattar's autobiographical film “The Main Thing is to Stay Alive”; “Tusarnituuq! Nagano in the Land of the Inuit” by Félix Lajeunesse; Gerald Peary’s “For the Love of the Movies: The Story of American Film Criticism; and German director Jens Junker’s “Alias,” a portrait of a boy who grows up without knowing how he belongs to his family,

Quebec director Ricardo Trogi's biopic "1981" is to open the Montreal World Film Festival on Aug. 27. The Montreal festival runs to September 7.
