Flanagan tapped for Wilde fete

Fionnula Flanagan will be honored at the U.S.-Ireland Alliance's third annual "Oscar Wilde: Honoring the Irish in Film" pre-Academy Awards event Feb. 22, it was announced by the group's president Trina Vargo.

Flanagan joins Oscar-winning writer James L. Brooks and actress Fionna Shaw on the honorees' list.

Flanagan is being recognized for her vast body of work in film and television, including such credits as "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, "James Joyce's Women," "Youngblood," "Ulysses," "Waking Ned Devine" and Some Mother's Son," among others. Vargo noted that Flanagan "takes every opportunity to support the Irish film industry and Irish culture in general."
