Flanagan tapped for Wilde fete


Fionnula Flanagan will be honored at the U.S.-Ireland Alliance's third annual "Oscar Wilde: Honoring the Irish in Film" pre-Academy Awards event Feb. 22, it was announced by the group's president, Trina Vargo.

Flanagan joins James L. Brooks and actress Fionna Shaw on the honorees list.

Flanagan is being recognized for her body of work in film and television, including such credits as "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood," "James Joyce's Women," "Youngblood," "Ulysses," "Waking Ned Devine" and "Some Mother's Son," among others. Vargo said that Flanagan "takes every opportunity to support the Irish film industry and Irish culture in general."

The alliance is dedicated to fostering relationships between the U.S. and Ireland across the cultural, business and educational fields.
