Focus Features, Laika Ink Three-Film Pact
Focus worked with the stop-motion animation studio on 'The Boxtrolls,' 'Coraline' and 'ParaNorman'
Focus Features and stop-motion animation studio Laika have inked a three-picture pact that will allow them to continue their relationship after working together on The Boxtrolls (2014), Coraline (2009) and ParaNorman (2012).
Focus will distribute the next three movies domestically, and Universal Pictures International will release them overseas.
Focus most recently opened The Boxtrolls, which earned $17.3 million in its U.S. debut, setting a new record for a Laiki film's domestic debut. The two previous films each earned north of $100 million worldwide, with Coraline earning a Golden Globe and an Academy Award nomination.
"I am very pleased to continue our relationship with our friends at Laika," said Focus CEO Peter Schlessel in a statement. "Travis and his company have elevated the art of animated films, and we are proud to be part of their success."
