Folk tale: Warners has 'Thumb' nailed

Warner Bros. is taking a little man to the big screen.

The studio is developing "Thumb," a feature about Tom Thumb, the diminutive character of folklore who has had many entertainment incarnations over the years. "Enchanted" director Kevin Lima will helm the film.

"Thumb" will be a primarily live-action movie about the escapades of the pint-size protagonist, who may be depicted as a CG character. The movie, which could be fast-tracked by the studio, is said to be a fresh take that will explore the character's origin story. The comedy-adventure is based on an original screenplay by Robert Rodat.

The film will be produced by Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher via their Red Wagon banner, with Chris Chase exec producing. Courtenay Valenti and Jesse Ehrman oversee for Warners.

In addition to "Enchanted," the Endeavor-repped Lima has co-directed Disney's "Tarzan," which grossed $435 million worldwide when it was released in 1999. (partialdiff)
