Forman to head Marrakech fest jury

PARIS -- Czech director Milos Forman will head the jury of the seventh Marrakech International Film Festival, organizers said Monday.

The Oscar-winning director and writer is known for such big-screen hits as "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (1975), "Amadeus" (1984), "The People vs. Larry Flint" (1996) and "Man on the Moon" (1999).

"(Forman) is one of a handful of foreign directors to achieve international success without being pigeon-holed by genre or nationality," organizers said. "His films celebrate individualism and concentrate on individual human behavior."

The eight-day fest, which kicks off Dec. 7, also will honor Egypt with a tribute as the country celebrates the 100th anniversary of its cinema.

The official selection of the Marrakech fest will be announced in mid-November.
