Fortissimo founder 'toast' of Hamptons Film Fest

Asian film specialist Wouter Barendrecht to be honored

CANNES - Asian film specialist Wouter Barendrecht will be honored at this year’s Hamptons International Film Festival, October 15-19.

The ‘Toast’ to Dutch-born Barendrecht, which celebrates a person who best exemplifies the spirit of the independent film world, will take place on October 16, in the Hamptons on Long Island, New York.

The ‘Toast’ was first presented to Sony Picture Classics co-president Marcie Bloom, four years ago, followed by Picturehouse president Bob Berney the next year. and producer Ted Hope, last year.

Barendrecht founded Netherlands and Hong Kong-based Fortissimo Films in 1991 after years of working as a programmer for the Rotterdam International Film Festival and as a press officer for the Berlin International Film Festival´s Forum section.

At Fortissimo, Barendrecht guided titles such Asian films as Wong Kar-wai's “Chungking Express” and “In the Mood for Love.”
