Fortissimo glides into AFM with recent sales

'Gigantic,' 'Food, Inc.' among high-profile pickups

Fortissimo Films has notched up a raft of high-profile sales ahead of Wednesday's AFM kickoff.

Matt Aselton's "Gigantic," starring Zooey Deschanel, John Goodman and Paul Dano, has sold to Italian distributor BIM Distribuzione; while the Robert Kenner-directed "Food, Inc." has been picked up by Scandinavia distributor Svensk Filmindustri, Israel's United King Film Distribution, Taiwan's CMC Entertainment, Hong Kong's Deltamac Co., Russia's Film Depot and HBO for Latin American pay TV.

Further sales include Rashid Masharawi's "Laila's Birthday," which has gone to Amstel Films for Benelux and Barton for Spain; Nati Baratz's "Unmistaken Child" has been picked up by Cinemien for Benelux; Enrique Rivero-directed "Parque Via" has gone to Spanish distributor Wanda; and "Native Dancer," directed by Guka Omarova, has been acquired by United King. "Every Little Step" and the John Malkovich starrer "Disgrace" has been acquired by HBO for Latin American pay TV.

"We have had an extremely positive few months since Toronto, with strong sales and several films collecting awards," Fortissimo co-chair Michael J. Werner said.
