Fortissimo taps Yeung, Phathanavirangoon leaves
Latter heads to TIFF to program Southeast Asian filmFortissimo Films on Thursday announced it has hired Esther Yeung as director of marketing and special projects in its Hong Kong office and promoted Ingrid Lim to director of distribution and Asian sales.
Yeung replaces Raymond Phathanavirangoon, who has taken a job programming Southeast Asian films for the Toronto International Film Festival.
Fortissimo co-chairman Michael Werner said that hiring Yeung was "an indication of how much more emphasis we intend to place on local and Asian sales." Yeung joins Fortissimo from a managerial position at the Asia Film Financing Forum.
In his new capacity at Toronto, Phathanavirangoon will select films from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, while fellow Toronto programmer Giovanna Fulvi will select festival titles from mainland China, Japan and South Korea.
Phathanavirangoon's appointment follows the promotion of veteran Toronto programmer Cameron Bailey, who previously selected South Asian films, particularly from the Philippines and India, to a co-director position alongside Piers Handling.
