'Founding' to open with record prints

Jackie Chan, Jet Li join other stars in Sept. 16 release

BEIJING -- A film celebrating the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China will open with a record 1,450 prints, state media reported Thursday.

"The Founding of a Republic," produced by China Film Group and directed by CFG chairman Han Sanping, is part of a huge propaganda effort by the Chinese government to commemorate the Oct. 1 holiday, and will include a massive military parade in Beijing.

The film features appearances by over 200 Chinese stars from China and Hong Kong, including Jackie Chan and Jet Li.

About one million free tickets are being distributed for screenings of "Founding" and similar films such as "Tian An Men" that relate to the end of the Chinese Civil War in 1949 and the triumph of the Chinese Communist Party.

"Founding" will be released nationwide on Sept. 16, with a Hong Kong release expected on or around Sept. 20.
