Fox, Belgacom TV pact for VOD

BRUSSELS -- 20th Century Fox will offer VOD movies to Belgian cable operator Belgacom TV starting April 1.

The Fox VOD deal with Belgacom TV -- the digital unit of telecoms company Belgacom -- comes just six months after a similar arrangement with Warner Bros.

Belgacom TV -- with 300,000 subscribers -- has 1,600 videos on its menu, 600 of which are movies. Some, such as the news bulletins, are free, while the films cost €2-€4.5 ($3.10-$7). It also owns the broadcasting rights for the Jupiler League, the country's top soccer division.

At the same time, Belgacom TV CEO Jean Charles De Keyser has hailed Belgium as becoming a European testing ground for studios on marketing ideas, because it has two fairly distinct cultures -- Dutch-speaking Flanders in the north and French-speaking Wallonia in the south.
