Fox Business lands on XM

Audio channel launches July 14 on satellite radio

Fox Business Network, the upstart cable TV effort seeking to dethrone CNBC, will begin as an audio channel July 14 on XM Satellite Radio.

Like the Fox News Channel, FBN is owned by News Corp. FNC is already on XM and Sirius, as is CNBC, the cable leader in televised business news.

With FBN, XM will have exclusive sat-radio rights to a Fox channel.

Sirius and FBN declined to say Wednesday whether FBN would also eventually make its way to Sirius, but it might not matter if Sirius and XM merge.

Sirius, which has 8.3 million subscribers, and XM, which has 9.3 million subs, have been trying for 16 months to gain approval for their merger plan, and the FCC seems poised to vote on the matter in the next three weeks.

FBN on television, which launched last year, is available in about 35 million U.S. homes, compared with 95 million for CNBC, an asset of NBC Universal.
