Fox film music exec joins Universal

Mike Knobloch named president of film music and publishing

Universal Pictures has appointed industry veteran Mike Knobloch to oversee the studio's film music department, effective March 1.

Knobloch had been executive vp film music at Fox, where he supervised music on "Avatar," the two "Alvin and the Chipmunk" movies and the "X-Men" film series. Before joining Fox in 1996, he was an associate producer at Tyrell Music Group and worked with Disney's Meyers-Shyer Co.

As president of film music & publishing at Universal, Knobloch will oversee a 17-person department. In addition to supervising film scoring and soundtracks, Knobloch will oversee the studio's music-publishing administration and licensing operations.

He will report to Uni co-chairman Donna Langley and vice chairman-COO Rick Finkelstein.

"Mike brings an enormous amount of energy and talent to this job, where he'll play an integral role in our creative process," Langley said.

Knobloch succeeds Kathy Nelson, who left the studio in January.
