Fox films take top DVD berths
Empty20th Century Fox Home Entertainment swept the national DVD charts for the week ending April 20, snapping up the first four slots on the sales chart and the first two positions on the rental chart.
"Juno" debuted at No. 1 on both the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert Sales chart and Home Media Magazine's rental chart, with "Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem" bowing at No. 2 on both charts.
"Alvin and the Chipmunks," the nation's top DVD seller for the past two weeks, slipped to No. 3 on First Alert, while a third new release, "In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale," debuted at No. 4.
According to Nielsen figures, "Chipmunks" is now the year's No. 3 seller behind Warner's "I Am Legend" at No. 1 and Disney's "Enchanted" at No. 2.
In rental revenue, "Juno" generated an estimated $8.4 million in its first week according to Home Media Magazine market research. "Requiem" finished close behind with $7.7 million.
The previous week's top renter, Paramount's "There Will Be Blood," slipped to No. 3 but suffered a drop of just 17% in rental revenue for the week. After 12 days in release, the film's rental take to date is $15.6 million, or nearly 40% of its boxoffice earnings of $40.2 million.
Fox also scored the week's two top Blu-ray Disc sellers, though in the high-def arena, "Requiem" came out on top and "Juno" bowed at No. 2.
