Fox: Full of 'Simpsons' d'oh

2007 boxoffice: $1.01 bil | Market share: 10.5%

With the 2006 Christmas season release of "Night at the Museum," Fox started 2007 off with a nice nest egg: The effects comedy racked up $124 million of its $251 million domestic haul during the first months of the year. January also saw Hutch Parker's promotion to vice chairman of the Fox Film Group, as he added animation to his portfolio. Fittingly, the studio's big hit was the "The Simpsons Movie," the long-gestating film version of the TV franchise. The studio mined other properties with such summer sequels as "Live Free or Die Hard" and "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," which enjoyed even broader popularity in the international market. Fox ended the year by reviving another pop cultural craze with its "Alvin and the Chipmunks."
