Fox Latin America starts VOD service

Streaming content available on Internet portal

MEXICO CITY -- Fox Latin American Channels has launched an online VOD service featuring 800 hours of content available on its Internet portal

Hernan Lopez, president of News Corp.-owned Fox International Channels, said in a Tuesday video conference that the regional Fox on Demand model exclusively targets Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking markets throughout Latin America.

Revenue will be generated from sponsors and online advertisers. Despite rampant online piracy, Lopez sees encouraging growth potential in the upstart service as broadband Internet penetration rises in the territory.

"We know that advertisers are willing to pay a CPM (cost per thousand impressions) premium that is higher than what they would pay on cable TV," Lopez said.

The streaming content consists of full episodes and clips from the Fox group of channels, including series and original productions that air on the flagship channel, FX and National Geographic. New programming will hit the Mundofox Web site five months after its television broadcast premiere.
